Do you fancy a little time travel to the USA of the 50s/60s? That is possible on the French Riviera as well, because there is a French chain that takes you back in time and it is called quite fitting:
Between Menton and Marseille you will find seven diners, all of which – as it is proper for a chain – have the same card: Burger, ribs, steak, onion rings, club sandwich, French fries, milkshakes, soft drinks (also with free refill) – my mouth is already watering.
The restaurants are mostly located in the industrial areas. We were once in Fréjus (on a Saturday exactly at French lunchtime, which I remember as very full and loud) and once in Mougins. In Fréjus there is continuous service, in Mougins the dinner is only open during the usual mealtimes (11:45 a. m. – 2 p.m. and from 6:45 p.m. – 11 p.m.). Please check the opening hours and addresses beforehand.
It is great fun there. The radio plays a mix of all American hits from Elvis to Guns n’ Roses and the televisions show excerpts from famous movies, old comics or sporting events.
The food tastes good, but honestly, I have to say it’s not a revelation. You go here because of the ambiance or because you are near. And in Mougins you can also go to the Zucchini Blossom, it tastes better there. But it’s just not a diner from the 50s…
