One hears ‘Côte d’Azur’ and thinks: blue sea, jet set, Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot, romance, good food – vacations!
And then you come here and find it all – almost. The sea is blue. The sun is shining and the palm trees confirm that you are really on vacation. You can see the expected huge yachts as well as the exaggerated makeup of the ladies in designer bikinis with their optically matching handbag dogs. The prices for designer clothing and penthouse apartments are perceived with a smile and you pay 3,50 euros per scoop, simply because the ice cream parlor is right next to Gucci & Co. And for many this is wonderful and sufficient.
But what about those who want to look behind the facade?
Who are wondering where this Côte d’Azur is, which one knows from reports and films: nice locals, beautiful landscapes, lonely bays where one discovers a lot of colorful fishes while snorkeling and all the restaurants that offer the famous french dishes?
Or with those who come in wintertime, when half the Côte d’Azur has folded up the curbs and 2/3 of the restaurants are closed?
For all those I write here.
There is this Côte d’Azur, but you have to acquire it. For France doesn’t always make it easy to find one’s way. There are hiking maps – but you have to know where to buy them. There are restaurants with the much-praised French food – but not on the main roads.
Sometimes the time of a voyage is simply not suffice to take care of all these things yourself.
And now you’re wondering what actually qualifies me to do that, right?
This story is quickly told: the man, the dog and I always spend the winter on the Côte d’Azur, more precisely in Théoule-sur-Mer 😍
Since four years we have a small apartment there, which we rent out in summer (airbnb or homeaway). In order to really get to know our second home and because we like to discover new things, we read blogs, looked for inspiration on Instagram and Pinterest and browsed through travel guides. And found out that you can indeed detect something on all these pages, but it reminds of the famous search for needle in a haystack. There was no clear collection – which I would like to build up here.
If you want to know why it became the Côte d’Azur, you can read it here.
But with this blog I not only want to show you the beauty of the Côte d’Azur.
My dream is for you to fall in love with this beautiful area as much as we did. Therefore I show you the most beautiful corners, excursions and experiences. But I don’t just want to make the area palatable to you, I also want you to understand it. That’s why I write about traditions, history and current developments. Although France is a part of Europe, the country has a different history than Germany and therefore different values and rules of behavior. I think it’s important to get to know them and thus make a better understanding and togetherness possible.
I wish you a lot of fun on these pages. And if you have tips for me, where I could go or what is absolutely worthwhile, then write me an email to email@example.com or leave me a comment about the contact form. I am looking forward to it.
